Mary’s Meals

Charity Information 

Mary’s Meals is a global movement fueled by the belief that no child should endure a day without a meal.  

To do so, they’ve set up school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities, where poverty and hunger affect children’s ability to learn. Their vision is that every child receives one daily meal in their place of education and that those who have more than they need share with those who lack even the most basic things. 

Our Support 

Mary’s Meals was a legacy charity project supported by Shanker and Rachna Patel in 2012. Since then, they have sponsored the food programme at Gitwe Primary School, Kenya, providing daily lunch meals for 6703 children every school day. 

The school feeding model encourages children to attend school regularly, gives them energy to participate in class, and reduces anxiety about hunger.

Lords Group Foundation picked up the partnership in 2022 and as it started focusing on charities local to our branches, the partnership came to an end in December 2023. 

Thanks to the support received over the years, Gitwe Primary School is now categorised as low need and has dropped below the threshold to require the feeding programme.
