Lords Group Foundation builds links with young people’s charities
CEO Shanker Patel says he is proud of the work the Lords Group Foundation does to support local groups and organisations.
He was speaking after meeting four of the latest charities to benefit from Foundation grants.
The Sutton United Foundation, Merton Sea Cadets, Jigsaw4u and ADHD Embrace each received a cheque for £5,000 to help their work with young people and communities.
“The Lords Group is very much a family business, and it is important to me that we give back to the communities where we work,” said Shanker, “… to the groups that are important to our colleagues and to our customers.”
The four charities were nominated by colleagues in the Sutton, Cheam, Mitcham and Kingston branches of Lords Builders Merchants. Shanker added: “The Lords Group takes its social responsibility very seriously – it’s an important part of our culture.”
“The way I see it, as a business, we gain from people in our communities and from the builders they use, so it makes perfect sense that we give something back, it’s something I’m passionate about.”
About the Lords Group Foundation
The Lords Group Foundation was established in 2021 and receives £200,000 each year from the Lords Group to support good causes. As well as awarding grants, the Foundation fund-matches charitable fundraising by colleagues to the value of £1,000.
“It was good to meet the charities and find out more about the great work they do,” added Shanker.
Some of the charities we support
· The Sutton United Foundation’s grant will help fund their Community Football Programme, which reaches 100 young people each week.
· Merton Sea Cadets help young people aged 9-17 by teaching them skills and personal qualities based on the customs and traditions of today's Royal Navy.
· Jigsaw4u supports young people and families experiencing complex social and emotional difficulties. The £5,000 grant will be used towards family therapy.
· ADHD Embrace works to ensure that young people with ADHD are understood and supported, and ultimately thrive.
